Yesterday was the opening day of the 33rd Port Townsend Farmers Market, and what an incredible experience it was! Amanda, the Market Manager, asked me to capture the joy of the day—especially people with their flowers and produce baskets.
I was pleasantly surprised by how eager everyone was to let me photograph them! My new go-to line became, “Show me your produce!” and it led to so many delightful interactions. This particular photo is one of my favorites: I politely interrupted these two lovely ladies to ask if they’d pose together.
At first, I assumed they were friends, but later, one of them approached me to share how wonderful it was that I captured their fun moment together since they had just met! It reminded me of a beautiful quote by Jodi Picoult: “A photo says, you were happy, and I wanted to catch that. A photo says, you were so important to me that I put down everything else to come watch.”
Here’s to the new friendships formed and the smiles shared at the market! I took over 200 photos yesterday and narrowed it down to around 60 favorites. I'm sure Amanda will be sharing those along with the group photo and ribbon cutting next week. What a wonderful day it was.
